A few months there was an 'enhancement' on posting to PixyBlog - it was the one where the message that reads "you may navigate away from this page" began appearing. Anyway, ever since then my uploads take a tremendously long time. Sometimes it will even time out and tell me to try the upload again. And oftentimes after the 'time out' happens there will be "two" thumbnails posted with one being a dead link presenting a 404 message.
As can be seen here with the double thumbnails of the same image:

Just to be clear, my file uploads are not large, and second, I have no problem uploading anything, anywhere else. What do I need to change on my PixyBlog settings?

Hi Kevin,

You're spot-on; this is related to the update for our new media server which has been causing the problems. There were a couple of reasons for the new media server:

1) To speed-up delivery of media (photos and uploads) on the blogs by having a separate, dedicated server for this.
2) To allow our system to grow and handle more media and at larger file sizes.

Both of these have now been solved, but we hadn't anticipated the delay caused during the initial upload of the photos (or uploads). Since the update we have issued two further updates to try and resolve this, and although it is better, it's not enough.

The good news is that we've just finished completely re-writing the upload process. So now when you upload we first create a cached copy of the media which is ready for delivery immediately, then later (in a separate process) we synchronize with our media server. This brings the upload times back to what they were before the initial update + keeping the benefits of the new media server.

This will be included in our update planned for either Thursday or Friday this week. Frantically testing it now... watch the news blog or twitter for an update.

In the interim, is there a way I can delete the duplicated thumbnails that terminate with an error message?

Any update on how duplicated thumbnails can be removed, or the planned update? I'm following you on Twitter and the news blog

Apologies Kevin (and others). I'm bleary-eyed and buzzing from too much caffeine... We're almost there. Need this update to be the one which finally fixes the uploading issues so we can move-on to some cool stuff. Alarm is set for 6am. I would be very surprised if we don't get it online tomorrow.

The latest update is sitting on our testing servers and running well and scheduled to go live tomorrow.

I've taken care of this for Kevin, and it will be fixed for everyone when the update goes live. For those interested you can remove the duplicated images now through the admin interface by going to Photos > Manage and then you'll see the duplicate thumbnails. One will be linked to an Entry; you can see this by clicking the thumbnail and viewing the Photo Details... on that screen there will either be a link to the Entry or a message saying that there is no entry associated with this photo. Simply Delete the photo which is not associated with an Entry.
